Naval General Service, bar Java to George Dowell, Actg. Purser. Ent. Navy 1808, served in ‘Procris’ and present at the destruction of the Dutch Company’s ‘Wagster’ 8 guns and 4 swivels in July 1809. Still serving in ‘Procris’ was further present at the capture of five gunboats and the destruction of the sixth in the mouth of the Indrayo River in Java, 31 July 1811 and present at the capture of Java in August 1811 where Procris contributed to the shore battery for the purpose of reducing fot Cornelis prior to the general assault. He served in ‘Imogene’ 1836-39 off South America. Dowell was still in service as of 1848 in ‘Apolo and whilst serving in this ship was court marshalled and dismissed the service after being charged on numerous counts ranging from disobedience, false weekly accounting, disrespectful conduct towards his Captain, unofficer like conduct in striking members of his crew and hiding drunken officers who were under arrest.
