Sudan Medal 1898, 4787 Pte. W. Lindon, 1st Battalion, Warwickshire Regiment, during the Boer War attached to the 4th Mounted Infantry.

 

Following the Sudan war he was posted to the Boer War in South Africa, where he was attached to the 2nd Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment and then the 4th Battalion Mounted Infantry.

 

William Lindon was born in Liverpool, Lancashire, He enlisted for service on 20th August 1896 aged 21 having worked as a Collier.

 

He was posted to Egypt from 20th December 1897 until 2nd December 1898.
For his service in Egypt/Sudan he earned this medal and a Khedive’s Sudan Medal bar Atbara.

 

Posted home between 3rd September 1898 until 23rd December 1899 until war broke out in South Africa, being posted there from for the entire war from 24th November 1899 until 4th October 1902.

 

During this time he took part in the early battle of the war earning the Queen’s South Africa Medal with bars for Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Johannesburg, Diamond Hill and Belfast. Also the King’s South Africa Medal, 2 bars for South Africa 1901 and 1902.

 

After the Boer War he spent some time stationed in Bermuda between 5th October 1902 and 29th March 1904 before moving to Gibraltar between 30th March 1904 and 8th July 1904.

 

He then returned home to continue another 8 years of service at home from 9th July 1904 until 19th August 1912, being discharged after 16 years.
