Daniel Alfred Hart was born in Forest Gate, Essex, during 1892.

He enlisted for service with the Royal Army Medical Corps on 28th May 1915, having worked as a Clerk. He had ‘defective vision’ so had to wear eye glasses.

He went overseas with the British Expeditionary Force from 26th August 1915, landing at Havre on 27th August with 70 Field Ambulance, until 14th January 1919, being discharged after arriving home on 12th February 1919.

He first served in France & Belgium from 1915-1917, before going to Italy with the B.E.F. from 1917 until 1919. During this time he worked as both a Strecther Bearer & Clerk.

He detrained for service in Italy on 11th November 1917, and had at the time been granted a number of rapid promotions from Acting Corporal to being appointed Acting Sergeant with pay on 6/11/1917, then on the same day Acting Quarter Master Sergeant being discharged following the war as Warrant
