Frederick Dawson first landed for service in France on 13th October 1914.
He finished out the war to be discharged after finishing his term of engagement on 25th November 1919.
At the start of the war, the 7th Dragoon Guards were in India stationed at Secundrabad, they landed in Marseille with the 9th Secunderabad Cavalry Brigade, 1st Indian Cavalry Division in October 1914 to service on the Western Front.
They would receive various battle honours during the war: La Bassée 1914, Givenchy 1914, Somme 1916 ’18, Bazentin, Flers-Courcelette, Cambrai 1917 ’18, St. Quentin, Avre, Lys, Hazebrouck, Amiens, Hindenburg Line, St. Quentin Canal, Beaurevoir, Pursuit to Mons, France and Flanders 1914-18”
