1915 Star, British War and Victory Medal, 3320 Pte Arthur James Sykes, Duke of Lancaster’s Own Yeomanry.

 

1914-15 Star impressed: “3320 Pte. A. J. Stykes, D. Of Lanc. O. Yeo.”
WW1 Pair impressed: “3320 Pte. A. J. Sykes. D. of Lanc. O. Y.”

 

Arthur James Sykes was born in Blackpool, Fylde, Lancashire, during 1896.

 

At the age of 18 on 28th March 1914, he attested for service with the Corps of Dragoons of the Line, having worked as a Motor Mechanic.

 

He was assigned to the 1st Royal Dragoons on 7th April 1914.

 

He was then discharged on 13th June 1914 having claimed on payment of £10 only 3 months after attestation.

 

On 4th May 1915, he returned to service, with the war ongoing his papers say “Certified his half purchase money has been returned to 8926 Sykes, under 1133 R.W. and Army Order 99 of 1919.
He having enlisted in the Duke of Lancaster Own Yeomanry No 3320. Preston, 4/5/1915”

 

He entered into the War in France on 28th October 1915.
