Description
Afghanistan 1878-80, no bar, 685 Private M. Cardell, 2nd Bn 11th (Devonshire) Regiment, who died at Kandahar on 19th November 1881.
Officially engraved: “685 Pte M. Cardell. 2/11th Regt”
Confirmed on the medal roll which notes: “Deceased, Died at Kandahar, 19th November 1881”
During the 1878-80 Anglo-Afghan War, 139 soldiers from the 11th Devons Regiment lost their life.
These men are now commemorated on a plaque in Exeter Cathedral, you can view photographs of this which shows his name below:
