Italy, Al Valore Militare, Bronze, officially engraved, Gunner George Bute, Royal Field Artillery, awarded for bravery at Altipiano di Asiago, 9-11th September 1918.

 

Officially engraved on reverse: “-Altipiano di Asiago – George Bute 9-10 Settembre 1918” The obverse with original makers marks “F. G.” and crowned “Z” mark of the Regia Zecca Italian Mint.

 

An extremely rare confirmed award of the Italian Al Valore in Bronze, the Italian Medal of Military Valor, to Gunner George Henry Bute, D Battery, 241st South midland Brigade, R.F.A. with full citation.

 

Announced in the London Gazette, 11th March 1919

 

The original citation in Italian:

 

“BUTE, George, D Battery 24 Ist (S.M.) Brigade R.F.A. T.F. (Esercito Inglese) N. 30500 matricola –

 

Volontariamente accompagnava il proprio ufficiale nei punti piu esposti alle offese del nemico, durante un attacco contro posizioni avversarie, dando costante prova di coraggio e di abnegazione – Altipiano di Asiago, 9-10th Settembre 1918.”

 

Approximate translation: “Voluntarily accompanies his officer to the points most exposed to the enemy's offences, during an attack against opposing positions, giving constant proof of courage and self-denial “
