The Arctic Star, awarded since 2013 to men who saw operational service north of the Arctic Circle.
This medal is a retrospective award announced in late 2012, and issued from 2013, having been earned almost 70 years earlier.
They must be claimed and the recipient had to have seen verifiable operational service during World War 2 north of the Arctic Circle. Most awards are made to the Royal Navy and Merchant Navy who served in the area, mostly on the dangerous Arctic Convoy duties, as well as some of the Army present and Civilians.
