Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, VR, 1645 Pte G. Filtness, 15th Hussars.

 

George Filtness was born during 1861 in Greenwich, London, he enlisted for service with the 15th King’s Hussars on 3rd October 1879 aged 18.

 

He served for 22 years and 22 days all at home until his discharge on 21st October 1901.

 

He did serve in any wars having just joined during the Afghanistan War, the regiment fought in the First Boer War of 1881 but only the men already in Afghanistan were posted there.

 

During his service the Regiment returned to be stationed at Aldershot in 1882.
They then marched to the Midlands and on to Scotland. Amongst other duties the 15th Hussars provided a Royal Escort for Queen Victoria in Glasgow during 1888. In 1889 the Regiment moved to Ireland where they enjoyed 7 years of peace.
They returned to Southern England in 1896 and took part in Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations during 1897.
