Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, GV issue, 1403571 Gunner James Laird, Royal Artillery, From Templemore, Londonderry, saw 21 years long service.

 

James Laird was a Farm Labourer from Templemore, Londonderry, Northern Ireland when he attested for service with the Royal Artillery on 10th February 1908.

 

He served throughout WW1, earning the 1914-15 Star, British War and Victory Medal. Following the War he chose to re-enlist for further service on 12th January 1919 and was then sent to Afghanistan, earning the Indian General Service Medal, bar North West Frontier 1919. He was discharged after completing his 21 years of service on 9th February 1929 by King’s Regulations Para 370 (XXI)
