Description

Ashanti 1900, bar Kumassi, High Relief Bust, 14 Pte Anjenga, 1st K.A.R.C., a member of “C” Company, 1st Central Africa Battalion, King’s African Rifle Corps.

 

The medal roll remarks state that he was discharged after the campaign.

 

Included is a rare copy of his attestation papers, from the National Archives in Zomba, Malawi.

 

Anjenga was a member of the Yao Tribe, from the village of Palombe, in the Mulanje District of Malawi.

 

He enlisted with the King’s African Rifles on 1st August 1897, and took part in the Mphiseni Expedition of 1898, followed by the Ashanti expedition of 1900, where he took part in the Actions on 6th August to capture Kumassi, 22nd September at Dunassi and 30th September at Abuassee.

 

For his services he was “Rewarded for Gallantry £1”.

 

He was promoted to Lance Corporal on 25th January 1901.

 

He took his discharge on 5th June 1901.
