This scarce badge, was awarded during the lifetime of the League of Mercy, between 1899 and 1946, before its closure during 1947 upon the creation the National Health Service.
It was awarded for at least 5 years of distinguished and unpaid personal service to the League in support of charity hospitals, or in the relief of suffering, poverty or distress.
