Cadet Forces Medal, EIIR, Flying Officer Charles Lorimer Manners Romanes, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve Training Branch, of Duns, Berwickshire. 

 

Officially impressed: “FG. OFF. C.L.M. ROMANES. RAFVR(T)”

 

The part time Royal Air Force Training Branch coordinates with the Royal Air Force Air Cadets offering Air Experiences flights and providing flight experience for the Air Cadets.

 

Charles Lorimer Manners Romanes, was born in Scotland during 1924, we believe in Berwickshire, the family home town.

 

He was the son of Charles James Lorimer Romanes W.S., who was a famous Railways and Locomotive Photographer in his spare time, whilst he worked as a Solicitor being a Law Agent of Scotland and was additionally a “Writer to the Signet”.

 

Charles first enlisted into the Royal Air Force at Edinburgh, sometime “After 1941” according to enlistment registers, with the service number 1572496.

 

Following the war he can be seen in post war years living in Edinburgh, 

 

His marriage was recorded in the Berwickshire News, 18th July 1950:

 

“ROMANES – MORRISON – At the old Parish Church, Duns, July 15th, 1950, by the Reverend A.M. Douglas, M.A.,

Charles Lorimer Manners, son of the late C.J.L. Romanes, W.S., Norham Lodge, Duns, and of Mrs Romanes, to Sheila Agnes Bowie, eldest daughter of Mr G.S. Morrison, Solicitor and Procurator-Fiscal of Berkwickshire, and of Mrs Morrison, Rosebank, Duns.”

 

 

His RAFVR London Gazette Entries:

 

Supplement to the London Gazette, 25th Nov 1952, 

 

Supplement to the London Gazette, 24th April 1956, records Promotion from Pilot Officer to Flight Officer, dated 1st Feb 1956.

 

Supp to the LG, 27th September 1960, announces period of service as Flying Officer extended by another 4 years, dated 24th Sept 1960.

 

Supp to the LG 29th Sept 1964, extended another 4 years, dated 24th Sept 1964.

 

Supp to the LG, 1st October 1968, extended another 4 years, dated 24th Sept 1968.

 

Supp to the LG, 26th September 1972, “Commission Relinquished, Flying Officer C.L.M. Romanes (1572496), retaining his rank 24th September 1972.”

 

He done 20 years in the Cadet Forces, he later died in 1981, being buried in a family grave in Duns, Berwickshire.
