Cadet Forces Medal, GVI, Acting Flying Officer Alan Liddell, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve Training Branch, later Squadron Leader, first commissioned during WW2. 

 

Officially engraved: “Act Fg. Off. A. Liddell. R.A.F.V.R.(T)”

 

66163 Squadron Leader Alan Liddell, RAFVR (T), was first commissioned into the RAFVR Training Branch in the London Gazette 6th June 1941, in the middle of World War 2.

 

He was first “Granted a commission for the duration of hostilities as Acting Pilot Officer on Probation” dated 1st Feb 1941.

 

He is later noted in the London Gazette, 19th December 1950, where he was Appointed to a Commission as Flying officer on 9th October 1950.

 

London Gazette 4th Jan 1955 recalls a further extension of 4 years of service dated 9th October 1954.

 

He finally left in 1958, the London Gazette 18th Nov 1958 recording: “Commission Relinquished, Flying Officer A. Liddell (66163), retaining the rank of Squadron Leader, 9th October 1958.
