Cadet Forces Medal, EIIR, Lieut N. R. Gray, Army Cadet Forces.
Major N. R. Gray was a long serving Officer of the Cadet Forces in Scotland, spending most of his time with the Kincardine and Deeside Cadet Battalion, he is mentioned throughout a number of local Aberdeen Newspapers in the 1960s.
Aberdeen Evening Express, 12th December 1968:
“APPOINTMENTS, The new Deputy Commandant is to be Major N. R. Gray, who presently commands the Kincardineshire Cadet Battalion.
Major Gray, who is an ex Regular Gordon Highlander, joined the ACF as an Adult Instructor in 1953, Succeeding Major Gray as CO of Kincardineshire is Capt Bill Diack.”
The 1968 Army List shows him on the staff of the Scottish North Eastern Area, in Aberdeen as a Lieutenant under County Cadet Commandant A.W. Macdonald M.C.
A Lieutenant with the Cadet Corps, he held the rank of Acting Major since 1st January 1965, being commissioned on 5th April 1955.

The Board consisted of Major J. J. Gray, Commanding Officer of the City of Aberdeen Cadet Battalion with Captain N.R. Gray, Lieut C.J. Mitchell,……”

“ACF NOTES….
At Strichen, Major N. R. Gray wanted his cadets from Kincardineshire and Deeside to spent a profitable time on the ranges preparing for the ACF Wapinschaw.
But the weather clamped down and a wet weather programme was substituted.”
