China 1900, 2 bars, Taku Forts, Relief of Pekin, William Langmaid, Leading Shipwright, HMS Centurion.

 

Bars confirmed on the roll, HMS Centurion earned 750 China Medals during the war, 344 with no bars, 402 with Relief of Pekin, but only 20 men earned both the Taku Forts and Relief of Pekin Bars, including Langmaid.

 

163678 William Langmaid, was born in Portsmouth on 14th September 1870, he was a Carpenter when he joined the Royal Navy at Victory II as Carpenters Crew on 27th October 1891, He was made Shipwright a few months later.

 

He joined HMS Powerful on 8th June 1897 and became Leading Shipwright on 3rd July 1899.
Joined HMS Centurion on 9th September 1899 for the China war until 19th September 1901 as Leading Shipwright.
Whilst on HMS St Vincent between 22nd November 1901 and 8th May 1804, he was appointed as Carpenters Mate on 2nd July 1902.
His last ship was HMS Jupiter, where he served as Carpenter’s Mate from 20th September 1905 until 30th April 1907 when he was discharged dead on 30th April 1907 from Haslar Hospital, from a disease of his kidneys.
