Description

China 1900, bar Relief of Pekin, Silver, 4008 Sepoy Amal Khan, 24th Punjab Infantry.

Officially engraved in running script: “4008 Sepoy Amal Khan Pjb Infy”

About 300 Soldiers from the 24th Punjab Infantry received the clasp.

During the China War, manpower was short as most of the soldiers were busy fighting in the Boer War, so the British Empire had to rely on Indian Troops to take back Peking.

The Brigade that relieved Pekin consisted of only 1 British Regiment at full strength, with 300 men from the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, who served alongside 3 Indian Army Infantry regiments, 300 men from the 24th Punjab Infantry, 500 from the 7th Bengal Infantry and 500 men from the 1st Sikhs.

They also had about 200 men from the Chinese and Hong Kong Regiment, some odd men from various British units as well as the Royal Artillery, the Cavalry being provided by the 1st Bengal Lancers with 400 men, as well as the Royal Marines and Navy men from the Naval Brigade.
