Description
Colonial Police Long Service & Good Conduct, EIIR, 10620 African Detective Class 2 Tawona, B.S.A. British South Africa Police
Officially impressed: “10620 African Det. Cl. 2. Tawona. B.S.A. Police.”
This medal was curiously sold in a group of 5 back in December 2002 by DNW, part of an extensive grouping with a CPM and MSM to a Detective Station Bvumbi of the BSA and Rhodesia Police.
Both Detective Bvumbi and Tawona had the same service number of “10620”, possibly being the same person.
There is only one death record for a “Tawona” in Rhodesia.
Possibly being the same Tawona, born in Gutu, Rhodesia during 1909, son of Panganayi and Badamirai, who was at the time of his death in 1971 aged 60 and a Farmer at Farm 227 in Byahunda, Bikita, Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe.
The birth date would line up nicely with a retired Policeman, whose medal would have been awarded after 18 years of service sometime around the 1950s.
