Crimea Medal, 3 bars, Balaklava, Inkermann, Sebastopol, John Bell, 4th Dragoon Guards, contemporary engraved in an elaborate style, fought at Balaklava with the 4th Dragoon Guards and “Probably Rode in the Charge” of the Heavy Brigade at Balaklava

 

Contemporary engraved naming in an unusual and elaborate gothic style: “John Bell 4th Dn Gds”

 

In excellent condition, with old silk ribbon sewn on, with a silver riband bar for wear.

 

Provenance: Sothebys Auction, 1st July 1981, Lot 144, sold with a supposedly related 1914-15 Star trio and plaque.

 

Shown on the musters as effective with the regiment from 1st October to 31st December.

 

Like all men who fought at Balaklava but escaped being wounded or killed, they are noted in the book as “Probably Rode in the Charge” but it is accepted that as they were present at the Battle they would have all rode in the charge.
