Description

Crimea Medal, 3 bars, Alma, Balaklava, Inkermann, Private Frederick Burman, 1st Bn Rifle Brigade, Officially Impressed, died at Scutari on 22nd January 1855. 

 

Officially impressed naming: “FREDk BURMAN, 1st Bn RIFLE Bde”

 

Overall very well preserved posthumous medal, all as issued.

 

Provenance, ex DNW, 4th March 2020 and also 11th October 2023.

 

All 3 clasps confirmed on the medal roll which records an Officially Impressed medal being authorised for issue, service number 3616.

 

Having experienced significant fighting at all 3 major battles of the war, Private Burman died at Scutari Hospital on 22nd January 1855.

 

Notably he was present at Alma on 20th September 1854, Balaklava on 25th October 1854 and Inkermann on 5th November 1854.

 

Had he lived he might have taken part in the Siege of Sebastopol but looks to have died during the winter before being posted to the siege.
