Crimea medal contemporarily engraved, Al Valore is officially engraved as issued, Turkish Crimea unnamed.

 

He was born on 15th October 1824.
He first joined the Army as a Temporary Assistant Surgeon with the Ordnance Medical Department on 13th September 1849.

 

He was promoted to Assistant Surgeon O.M.D. on 23rd October 1849, remaining with the OMD until his promotion to Staff Surgeon 2nd Class.

 

His first war was in Crimea, serving with the Royal Artillery being promoted to Staff Surgeon 2nd Class 20th July 1855.
Promoted to Surgeon R.A. on 7th December 1855.

 

During his time in the Crimea, he was present first at the Battle of Alma & Inkermann, followed by the long siege of Sebastopol for which he was present for the duration.
He is also shown as present during the ‘Sortie’ of 25th October 1854, which appears be later called the Battle of Balaclava.

 

After the war he was awarded the Order of the Medjidie 5th Class by the Sultan of Turkey for his distinguished services before the enemy, during the war against Russia.

 

He was one of only about 450 British Men to earn the Italian Al Valore medal for Crimea.
