Crimea Medal, bar Sebastopol, Charles Geale, 10th Hussars.
Officially impressed naming: “C. Geale 10th Hussars.” Some contact marking and polishing through wear.
Charles Geale was born in Walton on Thames and was a Groom, before he attested for service with the 10th Hussars at Westminster on 1st January 1853, aged 19.
Promoted to Corporal on 10th September 1858.
Promoted to Sergeant, 9th April 1862
Discharged 13th December 1864.
His service was described as “Good, He was promoted Serjeant in possession of 3 good conduct badges… He is in possession of a medal for service in the Crimea and Clasp for the fall of Sebastopol and the Turkish War Medal.”
He had seen 1 years 137 days service in East Indies from 1st December 1853 to 16th April 1855.
Crimea and Turkey, 17th April 1855 to 25th June 1855, 1 Year 70 days.
His service had been slightly hampered from an old injury sustained at Balaklava, the medical report reads: “The cicatrices of the leg, arising from an injury sustained whilst unloading guns at Balaklava in August 1855.
The injury occurred in and by the service.”
The injury left him suffering great pain through the rest of his life.
Shown on the 1901 Census aged 67 working as a Railway Porter with his wife Ada J Geale and his children.
He lived in the Newport Dwellings, St Anne, Soho, London.
