C.S.I. Companion of the Most Exalted Order of the Star of India neck badge of superb quality.
Stunning order, Gold frame, with carved effigy of Queen Victoria on translucent glass centre, rose cut diamonds fill up the motto, with a silver engraved star for suspension.
The Badge of a Companion of the Order, this piece was originally awarded in the First form of a Breast Badge, with attached gold suspension and brooch.
The badges were returnable on death and were typically altered into Neck Badge from by resoldering the silver star suspension circa 1917.
This example however has survived without an unaltered suspension, with the original configuration of the star suspension, the gold suspension has simply been removed and gilt rings fitted for neck wear.
Superior early craftsmanship, a lot thicker overall and very well made and lacking the later white rimmed design around the centre.
