Davison’s Nile Medal, 1798, bronze gilt, mounted for wear as a breast badge, named to William Furlong, Yeoman of the Sheets, HMS Goliath.
An excellent original example in bronze gilt. With full edge impressing.
Pierced at 12 o’clock and fitted with 2 rings and a silk ribbon, with an old buckle, pin removed, for wear as a breast badge.
Contemporarily engraved in an attractive script to reverse field: “Wm Furlong Boatswains Mate of H.M.S. Goliath.”

No 318 William Furlong, Entered te ship on 16th February 1796 from Edgar Dutton, an “Indiaman” Volunteer born in London who was aged 49 at the time.
Shown as an Able Seaman on 1st March 1796, then Quarter Gunner, 1st May 1796. Appointed Yeoman of the Sheets from June 1797.
He would have been almost 100 years old by the time of the implementation of the Naval General Service Medal, so this would be his only entitlement.
