Distinguished Conduct Medal, VR, James Hunt, 1st Bn Royal Regiment.

 

1285 Private James Hunt, of the 1st Bn 1st Royal Regiment of Foot was recommended for the newly instituted Distinguished Conduct Medal by his commanding officer on 16th January 1855, he is additionally entitled to the Crimea Medal, bar Sebastopol and the Turkish Crimea Medal, which according to the roll were likely issued unnamed during his service.

 

He appears to have been a long serving man with the regiment, being shown on the 1841 Army Index with the regiment stationed in Gibraltar and also on the 1851 index.

 

He does not however appear on the 1861 index, at this time following Crimea, the 1st Bn 1st Regiment had moved on to Ceylon and India not returning home until 1870, he possibly died during this period from the harsh climate.
