Dekoratie Voor Trouwe Dienst, D.T.D. The rare bravery medal awarded to Boer Officers who fought against the British in the Anglo Boer War 1899-1902, an original unnamed example.

Only about 655 awards were issued of the DTD, which were officially impressed when issued, this is likely only a handful of unnamed specimens, only a few have appeared for sale.

Translated as the Decoration for Faithful Service, his rare medal was awarded to Boer Officers who distinguished themselves on the battlefield.

During the war, Commanders were instructed to keep track of those who distinguished themselves in battle.

Following the founding of the Union of South Africa, this decoration was instituted to honour those who fought back against Britain, the medal was well thought of, and in the official order of wear for South Africans this medal would be worn before the Distinguished Service Order.

However on the British side of things, whilst the medal was instituted on behalf of King George V, the medal was not allowed to be officially worn and was excluded from the official order of wear from the Central Chancery.
