Distinguished Conduct Medal, GV, 1914 Star, 2731 Private J. Jones, 11th Battalion Manchester Regiment. Who later died in France and Flanders on 20th March 1918.

 

Jacob Jones was awarded his D.C.M. in the London Gazette on 13th February 1917, holding the rank of Lance Corporal at the time with citation reading:

 

“For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty, He has performed consistent good work throughout, and has at all times set a splendid example.”

 

He was born during 1886 in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire. Later moving to Stalybridge, Cheshire, enlisting for the Manchester Regiment during 1914 and landing for service in France on 8th November 1914.

 

He would later be killed in action on 20th March 1918 in France, being buried in the Philosophe British Cemetery, Mazingarbe.

 

He is entitled also to the British War and Victory Medal, but the medal index card states that the pair was returned to the mint.
