Distinguished Flying Cross by reverse marked Silver, with on old original silk ribbon mounted as worn,
While it is of excellent older quality and it looks very original it has a wire type suspender whereas it should be a ball suspender.
The extremely rare “Vliegerkruis” translate as “Airman’s Cross” has only been awarded approximately 735 times in total since 1941.
As well as Dutch Airmen it was awarded to Allied Airmen during WW2 whose actions were of high enough importance to the Netherlands.
Various reproductions and tailors copies can commonly be found which are very rarely found to be the original issues, this piece could well be a variation of an original issue.
