Egypt, undated, bar Suakin 1885, Khedive’s Star, 1884-6.

 

Captain & Acting Deputy Assistant Commisaries General, Sir Dudley Alan Duckworth-King, Commisariat & Transport Staff, seconded from the Welsh Regiment.

 

Colonel Sir Dudley Gordon Alan Duckworth-King, was born in London on November 28th 1851, to Admiral Sir George Duckworth-King, 4th Baronet, K.C.B. and Caroline, sister of the 3rd Earl of Portarlington.

 

He graduated from Sandhurst Military Academy and purchased a commission as an Ensign in the 69th Foot, South Lincolnshire Regiment on 27th July 1870.
He purchased a commission as a Lieutenant on October 27th, 1871.
He was then transferred and promoted to Captain, with the Welsh Regiment on 20th April 1878.
He held the office of Aide-de-Camp to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland between 1879 and 1882.
He was sent to Egypt and during his service in the Suakin expedition he was seconded to the C&T Corps Staff, as Acting Deputy Assistant Commissaries General.
Following this appointment he returned to the 1st Bn Welsh Regiment being promoted to Major on 14th April 1886.
He married Eva Mary Gore, the only daughter of Major General Ralph Gore on 15th April 1890.
After his lengthy army service of 21 years, he was transferred to the Reserve of Officers during 1891.
He succeeded to the title of 5th baronet King, of Bellevue, Co. Kent on 18th August 1891.

 

During 1895 He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel with the 1st Volunteer Battalion, Devonshire Regiment.
In 1898 he was promoted to Full Colonel.
He full retired in 1901, proceeding to hold the office of Deputy Lieutenant of Devon, the Office of Justice of the Peace for Devon and even becoming Sheriff in 1907, dying soon after on 14th February 1909 at the age of 57.

 

These medals are his sole entitlement for his service, mounted as worn on an old double slot brooch bar,
