Empress of India, 1st January 1877, Silver, the impressive large neck badge awarded upon the occasion of Queen Victoria becoming the Empress of India.

 

A particularly well preserved example showing only minor signs of wear, one very small edge bump about 9 o’clock.

 

With replacement full length neck ribbon with sewn in clips.

 

This magnificent and unusual large silver medal, which has a diameter of about 58mm and made from silver was a rare issue given on the occasion of Queen Victoria ascending to the title of Empress of India during the 1877 Delhi Durbar.

 

A small number of medals were awarded in Gold to select officials and Indian Royalty.
