Awarded for the Second Bone War, the Dutch East Indies Invasion of the Kingdom of Bone.

The Second Bone War was a conflict between the Dutch colonial authorities and the Bone Kingdom, a local state in South Sulawesi, within the larger Dutch East Indies. The war was primarily caused by the Dutch efforts to exert control and expand their influence over the region, as they sought to consolidate their colonial holdings.

The war began when the Dutch attempted to intervene in a succession dispute within the Bone Kingdom. The Dutch favoured a candidate who was more inclined to cooperate with their colonial administration. However, this intervention was met with resistance from the ruling Bone Sultanate, as well as other local kingdoms who saw it as a threat to their autonomy.

The conflict escalated into a full-scale war, with the Bone Kingdom and its allies launching guerilla attacks and engaging in guerrilla warfare against the Dutch forces. The Dutch, having superior military resources and technology, eventually managed to suppress the rebellion and assert their control over the region.

The war concluded in 1860 with the defeat of the Bone Kingdom and the signing of a treaty that reaffirmed Dutch colonial authority over the area. The Dutch implemented various measures to solidify their control, including the appointment of Dutch officials to positions of power within the local administration.
