General Service Medal, GV, bar Iraq, 79568 Pte D. McGlone, Manchester Regiment. Confirmed on his Medal Index Card.

 

Daniel McGlone as born on 26th April 1903 in Manchester, Lancashire to Daniel McGlone and Sarah Ann Barone. When he enlisted in 1917 he was barely 14 years old and would have been only 17-18 in Iraq.

 

The 1939 Cencus records him as a Motor Driver still living in Manchester, he later died during 1979 and was buried in Southern Cemetery, Manchester on 10th August 1979.

 

His entry in the National Roll of the Great War 1914-18:

 

McGlone, D., Private, 2nd Manchester Regiment.
He joined in August 1917, and on completing his training was engaged on important home service duties with his Battalion. Owing to his being under age for active service he was unable to obtain his transfer overseas before the termination of the war, but in February 1920 was sent to Mesopotamia, and was stationed in Baghdad. He was still serving with the Colours in 1920. 37, Grantham Street, West Gorton, Manchester.
