General Service Medal 1962, bar Malaya Peninsula, FX910759 Leading Airman R.E. Henley, Royal Navy. Scarce to the Fleet Air Arm section of the R.N.

Officially impressed: “FX.910759 R.E. Henley. L.A.M. R.N.”

The clasp “Malay Peninsula” was awarded for service in the Malaysian Peninsula – Singapore Area between 17th August 1864 to 12th June 1965 for ground forces, and to 11th August 1966 for Air Crew.

The campaign was an extension of the previous “Borneo” clasp, during 1964 Indoensia attacked the Malaysian Mainland, with parachute landings in Johore while other troops landed across the Malacca Straits from Indian Sumatra.

The clasp was earned for operations in Malaysia and the surrounding waters against these troops.

During this conflict the Fleet Air Arm flew troops into the jungle via Helicopter as well as operating from Royal Navy vessels.
