The “Malaysia Service Medal” also known as the P.J.M. Pingat Jasa Malaysia, was established during 2004 and in 2005 was awarded to all veterans of the commonwealth forces who served in Malaysia from 1957 until 1966.

 

GSM Malaya, officially impressed: “Lt F. M. Loomes. Q.A.R.A.N.C.”

 

Florence Mary Loomes was born during 1926 in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire

 

She is shown on the 1939 Census as still at school, her 2 Older Brothers, George and Ronald were both Sergeant Pilots in the Royal Air Force. Her father Henry Loomes was a Traffic Controller with L.M.S. Railway and married to Mary Loomes. They lived in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire.

 

London Gazette 15th May 1959: Regular Army, Short Service Commissions, to be Lt dated 8th April 1959, Florence Mary Loomes, 460013, 15th April 1957.

 

London Gazette 29th May 1962, from Short Service Commission to be Lieutenant with Seniority.

 

London Gazette, 5th October 1962, Promoted to full Captain, 1st April 1962.

 

London Gazette, 15th April 1969, Promoted to Major, 15th April 1969.

 

During 1972 she married Thomas G. Evans in Market Harborough, Leicestershire.

 

Shortly after he Marriage, following at least 15 years as a Commissioned Regular Army Officer, she resigned her commission whilst a serving Major, announced in the Supplement to the London Gazette, 2nd May 1972:
“Regular Army: Maj F. M. Evans nee Loomes (460013) resigns her commission, 25th March 1972.”

 

Florence later passed away on 15th March 2010 in Swansea aged about 84.
