Following the end of World War 2, many soldiers were sent to Palestine for further service.
The 659th Artisan Works Squadron formed part of the Special Engineers Troops under overall command of Brigadier R.H. Perry CBE MC, Chief Engineer in Palestine and Transjordan.
It was one of Engineer Special Troops employed in the area, alongside the 344th, 796th, 887th Electrical and Mechanical Companies and the 653rd Road Construction Squadron.
Cpl Bell has a 14 million number, corresponding to approximate enlistment in the General Service Corps circa 1943.
It is unclear if he was also in the 659th A.W. Squadron during World War 2, the unit having been deployed to Normandy during the 1944 D-Day Landings at Gold Beach.
