Description

Hong Kong Plague Medal 1894, Private W. Allen, S.L.I. A rare medal for the Hong Kong Plague of 1894 awarded to the brave men of the King’s Shropshire Light Infantry who volunteered to help during the terrifying outbreak of the ‘Black Death’.

About 600 men of the 1st K.S.L.I. who were known as the “Whitewash Brigade” were awarded the medal for their assistance, luckily only one Officer (Capt G.C. Vesey) and nine men of the regiment caught the disease, with Capt Vesey being the only one to die.
