About 600 Men of the Shropshire L.I. formed the “Whitewash Brigade” during the Bubonic Plague outbreak in Hong Kong during 1894.
The Book “The Whitewash Brigade” reports that the medal has been known to exist in the past, having been sold circa September 1979 by Stanley Gibbons.
