India General Service Medal 1854, bar Umbeyla, 55 Pte Thomas Costello, H.M.’s 1st Battalion 7th Regiment of Foot.
With copy service papers.

 

Thomas Costello was born during 1837 in Shinrone, Birr, King’s County, Ireland.

 

He enlisted for service on 26th February 1855, having been released from the 98th King’s County Rifles Regiment of Militia at the age of 18.

 

He served for 10 years, with 8 years and 3 months being overseas, having spent 1 year in Malta and Crimea for the war, followed by 7 years and 3 months in the East Indies.

 

His conduct was stated to be “Good and he is in possession of two good conduct badges.”
“Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp Sebastopol, and Turkish medal, also India Medal with clasp Umbeyla.”
