Officially engraved in the style of the Ashantee/South Africa 1877-9 Medal: “902 Pte. J. Dougherty. 71st Foot.”
Shown on the list of returned to the mint medals, then issued on 5th October 1874, at which time the Mint had switched from impressing to the attractive engraving of the Ashantee (Coomassie) medals.
