Description

India General Service Medal 1895, VR, 2 bars, Punjab Frontier 1897-98, Tirah 1897-98, 2012 Private Thomas Lewis, 1st Bn Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry.

 

Officially engraved: “2012 Pte T. Lewis. 1/D. C.L.I.”

 

Engraved in the unique attractive script engraved style seen to the regiment.

 

Confirmed on the medal roll.

 

With copy service papers.

 

Thomas Lewis was born during 1868 in Poplar, London.

 

Whilst underage, he served with his local Militia, the 3rd Battalion Royal Fusiliers.

 

Before turning 18 and signing on for full time service with the D.C.L.I. on 4th February 1886.

 

He would serve a full 21 years 236 days on service with the DCLI, consisting of the following:

 

“Home, 2nd Feb 1886 – 7th Feb 1888

India, 8th Feb 1888 – 21st December 1900

Ceylon, 22nd December 1900 – 27th November 1902

South Africa, 28th November 1902 – 12th July 1906

Home, 13th July 1906 – 15th September 1907.
