Description

India General Service Medal 1908, EDVII, bar North West Frontier 1908, 1370 Pte George Weaver, Northumberland Fusiliers, who deserted his regiment during 1919 forfeiting his WW1 Trio.

 

Officially engraved: “1370 Pte G. Weaver 1st Bn Northd Fus.”

 

Some edge knicks and general wear.

 

According to the Northumberland Fusiliers Database, Private George Weaver came from Liverpool, Lancashire and had numerous entries on the Wounded/Sick lists during the War, with 3 entries from December 1914, February 1915 and March 1917.

 

His MIC notes entry into France on 27th August 1914 as an “Old Contemptible”.

 

He was with 1st Battalion Northd Fus when they were amongst the first troops to land in France in August 1914 when they became engaged in the Retreat from Mons, Aisne, Ypres etc.

 

He is also noted as having served with the 1st Battalion, 26th, 18th and 14th Battalions throughout his service. This includes much war service with Pioneers and the Tyneside Irish battalions.

 

After going through all that, after the war was over he is noted as having deserted the regiment on 16th August 1919.

 

It is not clear whether he was recovered but his cause of discharge is shown as “Still serving March 1921”

 

For his desertion, according to his medal roll entries he is crossed through and it reads “NO MEDAL”
