Confirmed on the medal as having earned this medal as a Private in the 2nd Bn Manchester Regt during the period.

The roll also notes that when it was compiled at Khartoum, Egypt, he was then a Lance Corporal.

Following Iraq in 1920, where the 2nd Battalion fought at Hillah, they were moved to India from 1922 until 1932.

During this period, McEvoy took part in the Burma Campaign.
In 1932, the regiment moved on to Sudan, where the roll was compiled noting that McEvoy was still present with the battalion.

When he earned this medal, a rebellion had broken out in Burma during December 1930.
The local authorities requested that infantry were sent over from India to help restore control.
The 2nd Manchesters took part in patrols of the jungle and villages in their assigned region until the rebellion was brought to an end in 1932.
