Description

India General Service Medal 1895, bar Punjab Frontier 1897-98, Queen’s South Africa Medal, 3 bars, Elandslaagte, Defence of Ladysmith, Belfast, King’s South Africa, 2 bars, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902, British War and Victory Medal Pair, 3595 Private F. Tarr, Devonshire Regiment.

 

First 3 campaign medals all named as 3595 Private in the Devonshire Regiment.
WW1 Pair named “629487 Spr F. Tarr. C.R.T.”

 

Frank Tarr was born in Canton, Cardiff, Glamorganshire, Wales, during 1873.

 

He attested for service with the Devon Regiment at the age of 19 on 29th September 1892.

 

He saw the following service:

 

At Home: 29th September 1892 – 25th September 1894
East India: 26th September 1894 – 20th September 1894
South Africa: 21st September 1899 – 18th January 1902
India: 19th January 1902 – 1st January 1906
Home: 2nd January 1906 – 20th July 1906.

 

Following his discharge he did not return home to Wales, he boarded a ship from Liverpool, England bound for Montreal, Quebec, Canada on 17th August 1906.

 

He lived happily in Vancouver and was a valued member of the city, when WW1 broke out he once again volunteered for service at the age of 42 in 1915 and went to France for his 3rd War.

 

He died in Vancouver during 1942, his obituary in The Province
