Imperial Service Medal, GV, 1911-1920 1st Type Star Shape, William Henry Keevil, 3rd Class Superintendent of Stamping, Office of Inspector of Stamping, Inland Revenue.
Officially engraved on reverse: “William H. Keevil”
Mounted on original ribbon and wearing pin as issued by Elkington, contained in the original case of issue, the lid detached but fixable.
Announced in the Edinburgh Gazette on 7th July 1914, dated 30th June 1914, Whitehall.
William Henry Keevil was born in Westminster London during 1857.
He is shown on the 1911 Census living in Balham London, aged 54 working as a “Civil Servant, Superintendent, Inland Revenue” living with his wife Louisa, daughter and 1 Servant.
Barely a year after the issue of his hard earned medal, he died in Wandsworth during 1915.
The Imperial Service Medal, instituted on 8th August 1902 was first awarded as this 7 sided star shape, alongside the higher grade Imperial Service Order.
In 1920 they changed the issue to the more commonly seen small round silver type, this particular variety being issued between 1911 and 1920.
A Civil Servant would be awarded the medal for about 25 years of Loyal and Meritorious Service to the Crown upon retirement.
