Officially impressed: “Wm Lind 72nd Highlanders”

Confirmed on the medal roll, entitled to the Central India clasp.

The medal also confirmed that he was present at the Siege of Kotah, as well as the Battles of both Bunnass and Pertabghur.

At the Kotah, the 72nd Highlanders won a Victoria Cross.

Upon his medical discharge in 1864 his conduct was stated as “Has been good latterly, he is in possession of 3 good conduct badges”

Latterly has been added by another pen, as he certainly improved with age but the word latterly was certainly required as:

“He has been 39 times entered into the Regimental Defaulters Book and has been 3 times tried by court martial.”

The Court Martial registers note his imprisonment whilst stationed in Grenada, on 24th February when he was sentenced to 56 days of Hard Labour for “Improper Language”.

His Indian Mutiny battles, represented by the Medal and clasp for the Central India Campaign:

The Siege of Kotah.

Battle fought at Kota in Rajastan on 30th March 1858, the Rajputana Field Force under General Roberts against the Rebel Sepoys under the Marhaaj of Kotah.
