Indian Volunteer Officer’s Decoration, GRI, 1911 Delhi Durbar Medal, both named to Capt Charles Henry Vevers Green, 10th Naina Tal Company, Indian Defence Force, Calcutta Rifles.

 

Delhi Durbar contemporarily engraved on edge: “Capt C.H.V. Green 2nd Calcutta Rifles.”
Decoration officially engraved on back: “Captn C. H. V. Green. 10th Naina Tal Coy. I.D.F. *”

 

Charles Henry Vevers Green was born on 18th July 1877 in Lewisham, Kent. The son of Valentine and Fanny Eleanor Green (Walker).

 

He was employed at the Alliance Bank of Simla at its Office in Calcutta whilst being a member of the Volunteer Forces.

 

He was a 2nd Lieut with E Company, Agra Volunteer Rifles Corps receiving his commissioned on 14th December 1900.

 

Delhi Durbar confirmed on the roll being present at the event with 2nd (Presidency) Battalion, Calcutta Volunteer Rifles.

 

Listed on the 1st January 1912 Indian Army List as a Captain with 2nd Presidency Battalion, Calcutta Volunteer Rifles.

 

Awarded the Indian Volunteer Forces Officer’s Decoration in the Gazette of India 28th February 1920.

 

The 1939 Register lists him as a Retired Bank Manager living in Bournemouth, Hampshire. He later died on 13th May 1951.
