Description
Kabul to Kandahar Star, unnamed, made from Bronze Cannons captured at the Battle of Kandahar for those Soldiers who marched with Lord Roberts from Kabul to Kandahar on his famous 310 mile march.
After the end of the war in Afghanistan, Queen Victoria authorised the issue of this star during 1881, Bronze from the melted down cannons of the defeated Army of Ayub Khan was given to Messrs H. Jenkins & Sons, Medallists of Birmingham to produce these stars.
Most of the examples issued to British Regiments were impressed with the names on the backs of the star by the manufacturer, however those to Indian Regiments were left unnamed to be engraved in various styles locally if named.
