The 1st Bn Kings Regiment were deployed to Korea in September 1952, after some training time in Hong Kong and Battle Training in Japan. They came under the command of the 29th Infantry Brigade Group.
Notably the regiment was stationed defending the important position known as “The Hook”, having to hold off determined attacked on the position by the Chinese forces.
By the time they left Korea, the battalion had suffered 28 dead and 200 wounded, out of about 1,500-2000 men who served in the war from the regiment.
Only about 350 of the soldiers were Regular Army men, the rest being conscripts on National Service.
