King’s South Africa Medal, 2 bars, SA 1901, SA 1902, 4133 Pte G. Temple, Manchester Regiment.

 

George Temple was born in Deptford, Kent. At the age of 18 having been a Cooper’s Labourer, attested for service with the Manchester Regiment, he was at the time serving with the 4th Battalion East Surrey Regiment of Militia.

 

Saw the following overseas service:

 

Home, 9th January 1894 – 17th December 1895
India, 18th December 1895 – 30th November 1897
Malta, 1st December 1897 – 7th February 1898
Gibraltar, 8th February 1898 – 22nd August 1899
South Africa, 23rd August 1899 – 31st July 1902.
Army Reserve, 1st August 1902 – 8th January 1906.

 

Also entitled to the Queen’s South Africa Medal, 2 bars, for Belfast and Defence of Ladysmith.

 

Having been a full Corporal since August 1898, during the Boer War on 15th February 1900, during the Siege of Ladysmith, he was “tried by Regimental Court Martial for Conduct to the prejudice of good order, sentenced to be reduced to the ranks.”
