King’s South Africa Medal, 2 bars, Sergeant John Miller, Northumberland Fusiliers, Omdurman Veteran, Mentioned in Despatches for bravery at Kleinfontein, October 1901, later Parliament Messenger and New Zealand Ordnance Corps, where he had immigrated to after retiring from the Army.

 

Officially impressed: “1548 Serjt: J. Miller. North’d Fus.” Some contact marking from wear over a very long army career.

 

There is a photo of him celebrating his Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1940, after living in New Zealand for over 30 years.

 

Entitled to the Queen’s Sudan, Khedive’s Sudan Medal, bar Khartoum, and Queen’s South Africa Medal, bars Belmont, Modder River, Orange Free State and Transvaal.

 

Mentioned in Despatches for his bravery at Kleinfontein on 24th October 1901, announced in the London Gazette, 17th January 1902: “Collected men and took them to hold an important position. Has several times done most excellent service in action.”
